View Full Version : Are Americans Crap At Making Films??
hotsurfie8569 05-13-2005, 06:54 PM Think about it, we've only really had one option up until recently and thats watching crap from hollywood.now british films have started coming out in the last 10 years and they are masterpeaces.--lock stock, snatch, this is england, hot fuzz, shawn of the dead, run fat boy run (not seen it but looks good), harry potters, green street, full monty, trainspotting, 28 days later, borat (from the top of my head).--yet i forget last time i watched a good film from hollywood without the stars and stripes flying every 2 mins or silly US patrisim in there.(Quentin Tarantino is something special but thats about it).so question must be asked, are americans crap at making films but we've had no choice until recently to watch it?
deedee72 05-16-2005, 06:32 AM I think film in the US is getting worse and worse as the years go by across all the genres. Everything for adults seems to be about killing everyone you can see, cursing like a sailor, and/or a crude comedy to show just how stupid we Americans are; and the shows for children are completely stupid and lack that "Lion King-esque" awesomeness that they once had, like underdog, Herbie, Robots, Ratatouille, Over the hedge...I don't know about films in other countries, but American films suck big time.
SaraBagus 05-18-2005, 06:11 PM What is crap is that you think shawn of the dead and borat are good movies. They are two of the worst movies ever made.
WayneP 05-21-2005, 05:50 AM as soon as they get out of the land of the free home of the moron routine they might start bringing out better films
jmr31 05-23-2005, 05:29 PM There have been great film makers worldwide. Most reasonable people would call your list movies and not films so no point continuing. By the way Hitchcock, Kurosawa were not American. But Speilberg and Lucas are.
Livermore9589 05-26-2005, 05:07 AM Yeah you do have a point, we brits don’t make many films but its funny how many of those films you listed are in the top 250 movies ever produced:-http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117951/ (trainspotting)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0208092/ (snatch)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120735/ (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425112/ (hot fuzz)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365748/ (shawn of the dead)http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480025/ (this is england)
flying_eagle4292 05-28-2005, 04:46 PM latinos have some good movies out there, check them out.
alphabetsoup2 05-31-2005, 04:25 AM Your opinion is your opinion......there's good ones and bad ones. But I just wanted to add that Borat was an American Film and Harry Potter was written by an English Woman, but produced by Hollywood (Warner Brothers Studios). Plus, you guys only get a small fraction of the movies we get from America.Maybe you guys can start turning out some good ones finally!!!Have a nice day
TheRustyKeg3173 06-02-2005, 04:04 PM it all comes down to opinion. every film you can think of there is always alot of people that wont like it but much of the time there is also alot of people who do."crap" is a masterpiece for some. others, masterpieces are crap.yes there are alot with violence, sex and drugs but it really doesnt matter now that its a bad influence because the damage has already been done. people already know what this stuff is because one its for adults so of course we are educated (or supposed to be on all this so we know whats right and wrong) and its already found its way into the world. drugs have been around a long time even b4 much of these popular movies were out so its not like its the cause of it all. sex...again old news. i wouldnt even be surprised if Adam and Eve had their share of sexual play back then. alot of the violence today..well we can blame war for that. even if films did bring much of the bad influence it really wouldnt matter because again the damage has already been done.people should be smart anyway and watch a movie, not getting bad ideas from it.there is no harm in these movies. its ok to watch violence and all that stuff but to act upon it would be the person's fault not the people who made the movie. theyre the ones who decided to watched it. they should know better. if theyre too stupid to realize, too bad! if kids were the one getting bad ideas from movies, then it would be the parents fault. the film companies made these movies expecting that people would be sensible enough to know whats right and wrong.
danielpsw 06-05-2005, 03:42 AM *to one of the above replys*maybe you could say borat is an american film but sasha baron was entertaining the british public with his characters in the late 90's.but wow harry potter american, thats new lol. the harry potter films are made in britain, played by british actors and written by an british woman.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4141130.stm(summary) just because a film is 'american backed' does not mean that film is that nationality. your points are like saying manchester united is american just because malcolm glazer owns them or a lot american NFL teams are japanese because some are owned by japanese business men.it does not work like that.
