View Full Version : Are the public schools failing in more serious ways?
skycat 12-30-2004, 01:32 PM In my effort to understand globalization and prepare my daughter for her place in the work force I have been seeking the proper education from public to private school. I am shocked to learn of the very expensive private elementary schools that have included "globalization" into the cirriculum. The private school that I picked for my daughter does not skim the surface of the education these other schools are preparing the kids for in areas of banking, social economics, trade and the list goes on an on. The cost starts at 18,000 a year for first grade but the things the administrator told me is alarming for the rest of us. The elite are doing a great job of preparing their kids because they know the future, they created it. That worries me for the rest of society. Most of whom do not even see what is coming for their kids 20 years from now. Therefore, why hasn't global education been considered by the same people who are revamping America?Sasha, you may be missing the point. Our society is being divided into two classes. The slave masters and the slaves.Fireball, I agree with you now but in year 2030 I predict an entirely different world that does not include unions. The once highly paid construction trade workers are being replaced with illegals or lower paid immigrants. Meat packers are competing with lower paid workers. I know at least a dozen people who lost their high paying jobs or forced t take the cut. When you have 10,000 people competing for the same job the wage goes down.
NCognito0200 01-01-2005, 09:22 AM No, they're a tremendous success in their intended role as government indoctrination centers.
Lillian 01-03-2005, 05:13 AM Because the standards have fallen so far, that parents are happy if their kids can even come out of public school knowing how to read.
Freethinker 01-05-2005, 01:03 AM This is one reason (amongst many) that we homeschool our kids.
diogenese_97 01-06-2005, 08:54 PM This is the idea behind the privatization of schools. The rich get a good education and the rest become ghettoized. The Reagen administration started this and if you look at New Orleans you will see the privatization at work. It is the way for the rich to dumb down the population so that they can do as they like. Beware of this trend, it will ruin America.
Kreed 01-08-2005, 04:44 PM In my opinion, the failure starts not only in school, but everywhere in our nanny state. Kids no longer ever lose, they are winners for just showing up. Ridiculous. I lost a lot when I was younger, but then I learned to be better took time and commitment. When people quit babying our society, things can turn around. My children are learning that to lose or fail is just a block to build on. "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger" is a mantra in my household.
Sasha 01-10-2005, 12:34 PM Private Schools are getting worse as Public Schools. If my son was young, he would be home Schooled. Globalization? That is to far fetched. Children don''t need to learn such propaganda. To many kids here in my town, has had chilling effects on that. This is why a lot of parents here are teaching their children at home. Sounds like a bit Socialistic to me. If she is in the first grade why can't she be just a little girl? I feel so bad for some of these kids now days.
itsyourworld_changeit 01-12-2005, 08:25 AM If our public schools are failing, it's because of legislation like NCLB (No Child Left Behind) which takes funding away from schools that perform poorly. Teachers are forced to focus their curriculum on standardized tests, which takes away from other important curriculum. All of this in an effort by Republicans to take away funding from our public tax payer funded schools to replace them with vouchers that won't cover the cost of private schools. This will either force the poor and middle class to a) pay for the private schools out of pocket, or b) not send their kids to school at all, creating more "kids for the factories."The wealthy can afford to send their kids to private schools, but they also pay taxes which pay for OUR kids to go to school, so they're paying twice which apparently, they have decided they don't want to do anymore. IF all public schools are eventually replaced by private schools and private industry, our children will be indoctrinated with propaganda in every academic subject from English to Sex Education. Do we really want a corporation to ban Charles Dickens "A Tale of Two Cities" that describes a world of rich and poor because they wouldn't want people to realize there was something wrong with such a divide? Would we want Exxon Mobil writing the chapter on Global Warming/Climate change in our children's Science books? Would we want National Right to Life writing the chapters on Sexual Education Or Evolution? Once our public schools are in private hands the age of education ends and the age of propaganda and misinformation will begin.
airlineschargefortheseat 01-14-2005, 04:15 AM Governments idea of what is best for our kids brought on the decline by not allowing God back into education. And man's conception of what or how something came about brought even more confusion.A moral decline and a confused education go hand in hand. No one seems to know fact from fiction anymore. Those who now know the truth will not admitt they made a mistake (Creation vs Evolution) but have the guts to expect our kids to beleive it. But I grant to those who do know the truth to stick to it are wise. .
Private 01-16-2005, 12:06 AM I dont know the specifics of this particular school. However, state schools are the ultimate politicizing, brainwashing machines of our current socialist government here in england.School leavers believe england and the empire is the source of all evil, that to succeed is inconsiderate tto those that dont, its all about taking part and that immigrants have arrived to save us from ourselves.Thats pretty much the New labour rhetoric. The irony is,that exams are dumbed down to hide the all time low ability levels and industry is concerned that it cant train these school leavers because many dont know basic maths and english despite having the qualifications.Paying privately for childrens education means that not only will they recieve an outstanding education but the teachers and headteachers of such schools are from backgrounds shielded from New Labour and are generally resistant to its demands.Except of course when the government introduces new guidelines that force private schools to adopt regressive policies of state schools.edit@fireballoutstanding answer. My feelings exactly.
yifearnone 01-17-2005, 07:56 PM Myself, If I were elected, It would be clear what my job was as a leader. To protect the people I lead and lead them to be succesful by making sure children went to school and would not tempt them to quit with laws that set a age allowing them too. I would lower crime by making those who are in jail to get out only once they have gone to school and graduated, so they had a better choice to act on than the drop out that learned on the streets. This in itself would cure the ignorance that causes children to end up on welfare or as drug dealers or in gangs. In fact bringing down the cost of insurance with less children becoming thieves to servive and the cost of jails that they are put in after they have acted with the knowledge that they have learned from the school on the streets that they went to after they quit school. The idea that our leaders need to put anyone over our safety so buisness can pay slave wages and get away with it is a crime in itself to all of us that they lead. We elect them to protect us not others! Money spent on anyone but us should be put on our childrens feuture! Our problems are not over seas, they are right here!
Fireball 01-19-2005, 03:46 PM I grow tired of the comparison between low wage earners and slaves. Honestly. There is quite a bit of difference between being a slave and working in the fast food industry. Yes, there are different social classes. There are haves and have-nots. The multi-class system has done quite a lot to advance our society and quality of life. Some have-nots want to be haves, so they work hard, innovate, and succeed. The best thing that we can do to equip our children for success is to educate them. Our public education system has a No Child Allowed Ahead mentality. We need vouchers so that educators can be held accountable for the quality of education that they provide to our children. The law of supply and demand dictates that when there are people with vouchers looking for quality education, then educators will compete for those voucher-holding customers. That competition can only raise the standard of education in our country. Some people will choose to be factory workers, but you don't need to pity them. They hold union-protected jobs at $25/hr or more--hardly a slave's wage.
villageidiot 01-21-2005, 11:37 AM yes, and they want to make sure things stay that way.
