Was listening to Cliff Fletcher talk about "options" regarding the Leafs he couldn't get rid of (no-trade guys). If anyone saw the interview, you would see he was not to happy. My question/comment is: He mentioned that one option is to buy guys out...If so , does that count against the cap for the duration of the contract? or just the next year?AND... He mentioned demoting guys to the minors (which I would love to see happen as an example). I believe they are responsible for the salary, but it does not count against the cap..Is that true.

in the event of a buyout, the contract is only on the cap the year of the buyoutIf they send a guy to the minors he is still on the cap for the duration of their contract

You're right on the minors option (there are no movement clauses out there that prevent this). On the buyout side, I believe the value of the buyout counts against the cap for the duration of the contract. Need to confirm that, though. Yashin comes to mind. He's getting 2.7M for 8 years from the Isles but I don't recall what the cap hit on that amount is.

if a GM doesnt like the no movement clause then guess what ... DONT sign players contracts to include it. I know he inherited those in Toronto but im betting sometime in his career he too has signed someone to one. They said there is around a hundred players with it included in there contracts tonight so u figure 3-4 per team is par for the course.
