You ever heard of "paper profits"? You buy stock at $1, and later on, the same stock that others are selling has a value of $2. You are proud as punch and go get a loan for $2 with your stock certificate as collateral because you lost your job the day before.Now, the borrower wants his money back and today the market is having its meltdown. You go to sell your stock, but it's only worth .50 cents. What to do????That's simplistic, but European banks overly invested in American properties. The speculators are calling in each others' loans.Not sure what will happen. America is a service-based economy as of late and no longer has manufacturing jobs. Consumer spending, what they hope to boost in America, will only transfer money funds to Asia, that has the manufacturing jobs.In a word, Conservatism just sucks.
