View Full Version : How are Stocks and Bonds taxed in the U.S currently? scoper 08-11-2006, 12:11 PM What is the rate for each as of today?Thank You illusionist 09-03-2006, 03:33 PM Since you've now asked this question for multiple countries, the following assumes you are a US person for tax purposes:Stocks/Bonds held held 1 year or less are short term (regular tax brackets which are 10,15,25,33,35, etc.).Stocks/Bonds held more than a year are long term. The maximum tax is 15%. If your income fits within the 10-15 regular tax bracket, some or all of the long term amount may be taxed at 5%.In 2008-2010, the 5% rate will drop to 0%. Minor savings unless you are married filing jointly and *all* of your income is LTCG. |
