Don't get it twisted, everyone plays defense in the NBA, or you wouldn't get a check. Many players aren't good one on one defenders, and that will always be a problem when you have 6'8 and above athletes that are as quick as point guards and just as evasive. The guy is still young, more pressure has been placed on D-Wade, Melo, and LeBron, than Jordan, Magic, or Bird. Magic and Bird had squads around them, and the Bulls were built around Jordan. Give these guys time, none of them never even spent 75% of the 4 years in college.

What defense ? ..... you are talking about Melo right ? ..... his defense is only as good as his teammates are at defense ..... like you said he has Camby behind him and Iverson in front of him ...... if he didnt play defense in high school or college, he won't play defense in the NBA ...... he is what he is .... a soft offensive minded player ..... he doesnt care about defense ...... if he did, he would play some ...... oh, and we shouldn't forget who cowardly he is for punching a player in the back of the head and then running away ..... yeah, I have little respect for Melo as a player .... and even less respect for him as a person ........

Melo's defense definitly needs some tuning and a lot of hard work ... It's not because he's a good offensive player that he doesnt need to play decent D.It's not quite clever of Anthony to state that he's a decent defender and that D starts with him, and it's not in his favor to look at the complete package of his skills, he has too much flaws. The Nuggets only got one good defender, being Camby ... Iverson is, ... well, a die hard ball stealer, but don't ask him to defend taller, equally quick players. AC is not a good stealer, not a good boarder nor a good blocker. So, he's no good on the inside D, but he sure as hell is no Bell or Bryant at the perimeter D neither ...I'm not surprised that they have such a bad "points against" record. Defense is the work of a team, Camby can't do all on D himself. And who else will board or block shots?? I'm concerned, that with a lot of offensive force, they still will not be a real good team. It all starts with D and most of the Nuggets suck at playing it ...

carmelo is a good defender but the problem with him that he gets lazy sometimes
