With less & less Aussie kids taking up Aussie Rules, or quitting once they finish juniors, how long can the game last as a major sport of this country?The AFL is putting millions into establishing teams & promoting the game in non AFL states - without much success. They are already recruiting from Ireland - & are now talking about Africa!

As long as the AFL keeps looking after Collingwood - & they survive till after I'm gone, I don't really care.

Auskick numbers are climbing every year since it started in 1998. According to the AFL, over 300,000 boys and girls played youth footy under 8-under 14 in Oz.I don't quite understand your point. Footy is very popular in NSW, QLD, NT, ACT. Youth numbers for 2007 in NSW passed youth numbers in league and union--combined.

It's for this reason the AFL administration is changing the rules all the time. AFL has seen that it would be taken over by soccer & other non-contact sports so it is changing to cater for the less physical side of the dport.

Football is the biggest sport with kids. AFL come second in AFL states and is promoting in non traditional AFL states.Rugby is the big game in the ACT. I think the numbers go with Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League and AFL respectively.There's not that much junior AFL in Canberra

Yes, I think it will survive.I don't think it will ever be a major player on the world satge but we'll still have it here for a while yet.

Arent they recruiting just to spread the game. Doesnt mean they are desperate.ANyway how would you know less kids are playing. Like every kid Ive seeen in my school and primary schools love Aussie rules. Almost every kid watches AFL and acan kick a ball a fair way. Its still full popular in WA
