buys and sells foreign exchange. for example, they will buy euro's and hold them hoping that the value of euro will go up vs US dollar. You need to be a big player (i.e. millions) to really make an impact, but yes, you can make alot of money.

Forex stands for Foreign Currency Exchange. An investor is someone who holds an investment for at least 365 days. A trader will hold an investment for less than that. So you can have Forex Traders and Forex Investors. Obviously, people make money doing this, otherwise no one would do it.Forex does not need to be, nor is it in reality, excluded to the rich. I hate that kinda of answer. That is the mentality that keeps people out of investing for themselves. Check out this website if you want to learn! This guy is brillant, and he isn't selling anything! My suggestion to you, if you do trade, don't trade on any charts under 4 hours. Its too volatile and the Forex Platform company you are using makes a killing on the spread if you engage in a lot of trades within a short period of time. www.fore4noobs.com

To echo the other comments, you basically buy foreign currencies trying to make a return from the exchange rates.Money has a price and it usually is the interest rates (e.g. dictated by the Fed in the US) which are set by government agencies and the overall economy of a country. If you are a LONG TERM position holder some positions would be buying emerging market currencies (i.e. China). I myself am not a Forex investor because I am still a beginner so if you are too I would suggest gaining some experience (funds, stocks, etc.) first before buying currencies. My $0.02

The FOREX market is the world's major financial market. More than $2 trillion changes hands every day! That is greater than all US equity and Treasury markets combined! The worldwide FOREX market is entirely different from other financial markets as it does not have any centralized location. Moreover, it is a global electronic network of banks, financial institutions and individual traders that are involved in the buying and selling of national currencies. Normally by tradition, access to the FOREX market has been restricted to banks and major financial institutions. With recent advances in technology, however, the FOREX market is now available to everybody, including individual traders with smaller accounts. http://www.globalmoguls.com
