I plan on buying a car and these are the options of the makes that I have to choose from:AcuraChryslerFord GMHondaHyundaiIsuzuJeepKiaLexusMercuryMazdaMitsubi shiNissanPorscheSubaruSuzukiToyotaVolkswagenIt has to be a relatively big sized car that isn't too expensive. Which is best out of all of them? (safety, gas etc..) Also I want to know how much money would I get trade in for an 85' Oldsmobile Cutlass?

Ok, a lot of these cars such as Porsche and Lexus are going to be really expensive. And they're not going to give you anything for that Cutlass. Maybe a few hundred. Sell it and you'll get more. If you're not looking to spend much get a Toyota or a Scion because they're so dependable, safe, and good on gas. Honda and Nissan are really good in these categories too. I think you need to go research and give a little more info like price range. Chrystler 300 may not be a bad idea either.

yeah that cutlass wont get you much. You should look into toyota for best gas mileage and reliability. Like the New toyota highlander hybrid goes for like 35k, midsize suv and gets 27mpg.

Toyota camry or corolla is the best choice there. Because, they are relatively cheap, reliable, good on gas. The parts are also relatively cheap. Forexample if you need to replace a broken tail light or bumper, it is less expensive compared to other makes. Toyota corolla is truely a global brand. It is driven in almost every country. Even in rugged places that have virtually no paved roads such as Afghanistan. Another thing to consider is the depreciation factor. Some cars depreciate very quickly. Forexample if you buy it for $12000, two years later if you want to re-sell in in the open market it will only sell for $5000. But Toyota camry and corolla hold their value for very long time compared to other cars. If you can afford go for camry but if not then corolla. Also it is not a good idea to finance your purchase. It is a very expensive way of buying a car. Either buy it and pay it all upfront if you have. If you dont, then lease it.Regarding your oldsmobile, you wont get much if you trade it in. Because the dealers may offer you more than what you can sell it in the open market but they will bump the price of your new car. The deal will look sweet to you but actually, they will be overcharging you. The best is to first talk about the car you are buying and once you have been giving a price that you are satisfied with, tell them about the trade in. Dont tell them before hand that you want to trade in your car.

GM, Honda and Toyota, as far as the 85 Olds sell it outright to someone other that the dealer.
