View Full Version : Did you know that President Thomas Jefferson ALSO waged war against Islamic Extremism? anousha_patil 09-29-2006, 10:39 PM http://www.wallbuilders.com/resources/search/detail.php?ResourceID=151Concerning the Koran/Quran of Thomas's that Keith Ellison used to be sworn into the 110th Congress NoName 10-02-2006, 03:43 AM Wow! Don't you get tired of writing? Or did you cut and paste? But yes... that was where Captain Somers blew himself up. I have a copy of the ring that he gave to Admiral Prebble (I think his name was). ellernwudu33 10-04-2006, 08:46 AM I knew it. Your account is keen. I think it is prudent to recognize that Islam was the excuse to seize power and wealth. Nothing new here--those seeking power and wealth have used religion as the excuse for centuries. Have times changed? Margrete 10-06-2006, 01:50 PM Thomas Jefferson(March 28, 1786) We had a conference with the Ambassador of Tripoli at his house. The amount of all the information we can obtain from him was that perpetual peace was in all respects the most advisable, because a temporary treaty would leave room for increasing demands upon every renewal of it, and a stipulation for annual payments would be liable to failures of performance which would renew the war, repeat the negotiations and continually augment the claims of his nation and the difference in expense would by no means be adequate to the inconvenience. We took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the grounds of their pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation. The Ambassador answered us that it was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Muslim who should be slain in battle was sure to go to paradise. techzone12 10-08-2006, 06:54 PM Kipling said in the 19th century:East is EastAnd West is WestNever the Twain Shall Meet.He was an expert on European/ Asian interaction through his many years in British colonial India. His ideas were that although Western and Eastern peoples shouldnt be deliberately seperated, the thousands of years of divergant cultural differences would make full social interaction between East and west difficult if not impossible. This is not to say that 'They' are 'Our' enemy and that all indeviduals are bad people. Its just eastern and western nations will probably always struggle. arik0820 10-10-2006, 11:57 PM thank you for that information but lets not forget it was many who claimed to be Christians who kidnapped people in africa to sell them in America for slaves. but the good news is God forgives those who repent. HomeworkH1784 10-13-2006, 05:01 AM This is only a half truth. There was also the treaty of tripoli, which said that the USA would never interfere with Islamic Nations. After this, there was never another attack on any American vessels, until the early 1970's. Also, Jefferson studied he Koran with the same fervency as he did the Bible, and came to the conclusion that neither were to be followed. This is when he had his deist beliefs. Obviously, Ronald Reagan did not agree with what Jefferson said, since he bowed to the Islamic Fundamentalists in Iran that were holding our hostages, and traded "arms for hostages" (Remember Iran Contra?). Interesting to note too, that under President Clinton, we never paid any ransom for hostages. Since Clinton and Jefferson had a taste for the Ladies, then I would have o say that Clinton and Jefferson had a lot more in common. Rabbit2191 10-15-2006, 10:05 AM yes, ppl have always used religion for unjust purposes... the christians have used their religion as an excuse to kill countless number of indigenous people in latin america and muslims in jerusalem. andyg 10-17-2006, 03:08 PM And he was a liberal.I did know that actually, but I question your interpretation. The US had problems with it's citizens/sailors being seized from ships by the English as well, a Christian country (war of 1812)Seriously, you need to edit a bit rather than cut and paste, but thanks for sharing the info. stokatoke 10-19-2006, 08:12 PM No offence but Islamic Extermism was not a huge prob;em is 1776. |
